THE TEST PULL SAMPLES!!!!!!

I am sorry that I have been away and not updating for the past few months. Things haven’t been exactly easy for me during this coronavirus period.

Just weeks ago, I was told that the test samples are out and everything came out great. I received 3 test samples which include white, black, and “Flesh” color. Pictured above was the “White” unassembled pieces of “Chewthulhu”. It does look small but “Chewthulhu” is actually 20cm tall.

Days ago, I was informed that production molds are clean and ready to go. This meant that my dream has finally come true, CHEWTHULHU IS COMING TO LIFE!!!!!!!

I will reveal and update my blog, Facebook, and Instagram for the upcoming weeks. Studio shots of “Chewthulhu” and comparison shots will be updated then.

I will also be doing a lucky draw giveaway soon and also a soft launch of “Chewthulhu” by the end of December.

The official release of “Chewthulhu” will be in 2021.

It wasn’t easy to build this dream.

It definitely wasn’t cheap on the pocket.

But.

I am still glad,

this chance came.

That I am able to accomplish this little dream of mine.

Work In Progress - 3D Printing - LEG.

A little back story.

Chewthulhu is actually a mash up of Cthulhu and my surname, Chew.

I have always been a fan of HP Lovecraft’s work and his monsters. Especially Cthulhu, likewise, he is the first creature that I know of from HP Lovecraft.

Stupidity at its best, when I was young, I actually do believe that Cthulhu exist and live discreetly like the loch ness, yeti and sasquatch etc.

Anyhow, do you know about Hp Lovecraft’s short story, Color out of Space? (Read it or WATCH it!! yup, it was in cinemas recently)

Like the story, Chewthulhu, an alien life form attached to a meteorite crashed landed on the land of kaiju. Slowly changing the terrain beside and feeding of little kaiju nearby in order to grow.

The difference, Chewthulhu evolves, from a parasite form into an alien with physical body and starts to show sign of intelligence. An old and wise kaiju later on spotted and took him in. Settled down at the terrain that Chewthulhu changed while crashed landed, taught him and watch him grow, or rather, evolved.

Like the metamorphosis of a butterfly, chewthulhu evolves to change shape and size too. While some kaiju thought that this is normal, the old wise kaiju knew that Chewthulhu is different.

How different? stay tune.

Work In Progress - 3D Printing - Arm

“We come from the land of the ice and snow

From the midnight sun, where the hot springs flow

Like the immigrant song, baby Chewthulhu crashed landed in the land of Kaiju, grew up thinking he is a kaiju and now, it is his turn to explore the land of kaiju and find out his real identity. How many others must he fight with, Sing with, Cry with before he can realize who he actually is.

From a simple sketch, to multiples of 3D drawing and then finally, the 1st 3D printing. It really wasn’t a simple process.

Lots of brain storming, communicating and also, anxiety.

For someone who doesn’t really like to have any contact, I simply am amazed that I can talk on the phone for more than an hour to get Chewthulhu done. I honestly couldn’t even remember using the phone for more than 3 minutes for the past 10 years. ha.

One thing for sure, I have no regrets.

With the corona virus going on right now, many toy shows and productions are being pushed back/delayed but all these aren’t important right now.

Let’s just focus on keeping ourselves safe and healthy for now!

A little cute, A little evil, A little sinister.

The flying turd head kaiju with a mouth on his body, 6 arms in total and 2 tentacle legs.

Grow up and being taught by a kaiju. He behaves like a kaiju too.

After hunting one day, he went back only to find his home destroyed, guardian missing, pet kaiju died.

He IS frustrated.

He decided that it is time for him to set off in an adventure to look for his guardian and bring him home.

However, He was warn several times by his guardian not to leave the forest.

What’s out there and Who will he meet.

Being the only Alien in the kaiju world,

Will he find new friends or will he be eaten up?

Work in Progress - 3D drawing - 3rd Draft

Is this real life, is this just fantasy?

Never did I imagine that my imaginary monster will come true one day.

Few years ago, I was drawing up this character on a foolscap paper. It look like crap but i thought I did a good job. I came up with a story whereby he set off for an adventure looking for his lost "ONE" and make friends along the way despite being the odd one out. 3 characters was what I came up with back then.

Few months ago, I met 2 kind stranger whom motivates me and help me along the way to come out with this character. I still draw like shit but luckily, they understood what I wanted. I drew up the full story board, this time round, 7 characters, his lost ONE and his nemesis.

I really can’t wait to share the full story board but at the moment, it has to be done in stages.

I made some changes to the details, again.

Last feedback I got during the second draft was that the face and tummy is a little too blank & boring and thus, I added in the fingerprint like design to make him look unique.

I didn’t like how the leg came out to be like during the 2nd draft. It wasn’t how I visualize it will be. So, I added tentacles to replace the sharp scales.

Now that the 3rd draft have been finalized, I think the part that is lacking is the ear. I am looking forward to add more details to the ears instead of leaving it as it is.

Work in Progress - 3d drawing - 2nd Draft - LEG

Before

I didn’t elaborate much on his legs during my previous post as I mentioned that i wasn’t really impressed by the design after seeing his 2nd draft of 3D drawing. I also felt that the overall character design lacks of the element of “SEA”.

He is basically designed to stay on LAND, his wings at his back enables him to fly/float in the AIR. Not to mention too, if his head happens to get severed by his enemy, he too can use his wing shape ears to escape.

At the moment, he is lacking a major “SEA” element in his overall design. As I didn’t really like how the design of his leg came out in the 2nd draft of 3D drawing, I was thinking I can perhaps redesign the leg and add the element in it. Something that helps him in his battle underwater or swim better and thus, TENTACLES.

Work in Progress - 3D drawing - 2nd Draft - Front View

3D Drawing - 2nd Draft.

3D Drawing - 1st Draft

What makes a strong kaiju. I always ask myself when I was coming up with ideas for my upcoming character and I wanted something that is invincible on the Land, Air & Sea. Just a small issue though, this is his chibi form.

After all, the story starts when he is still a little baby alien trying to learn and fit into the land of Kaiju.

If you notice, his head is base on a flying turd. 2 wing-like ears.

5 eyes in total (2 chibi big big eyes to look a little cute. 2 sinister looking eyes to look fierce and 1 last eye of sauron like right above, this is his strongest eye. more will be reveal later) Actually, 7 eyes if you include 2 that is on both of his arm.

6 hands in total. 2 to battle, 4 to tear and feed. Veins on his stomach mouth and butt, reason being that while he fights and tears the enemy kaiju apart, the 4 little arm will consistently feed him. He will be eating while fighting and pooping out the waste all at the same time, I would say both the stomach mouth and butt will be his strongest body parts.

Sharp spiky thorns has been added to his leg but I won’t elaborate much about his legs at the moment . Well, to be honest, I didn’t really like the design of the legs after looking at the initial detailed draft and thus, I made a huge change to the design of the leg. It will be reveal in the 3rd and final draft of the 3D drawing.

Next post will be the last draft. Please do look forward to the final design. 3D printing has been completed too. Please do look forward to the next changes of my upcoming character.

Work in Progress - 3D drawing - 2nd Draft (Backview)

When I first started the drawings, I have no idea what type of details I want on him. The idea came later on inspired by my favorite toys. As I couldn’t draw well, providing pictures to the 3D artist is the best solution.

As you can see from above, the initial details have been added to the character. I like to give him the thorn and sharp scales just so that when his enemy punches him, they get injured by his thorns and sharp scales.

The wings are a little small as he is still at his adolescent phase. His back bone will be protruding out to have a little arch on his back.

He is round, really round as he is a little greedy kaiju. Eating is always his priority. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make him any rounder as I was told that it will be pretty hard to produce if he is too fat and thus, I made him look chubby instead.

As this is just the initial detail phase, there will be more changes later on.

Happy New Year Everyone

Work In Progress - 3D drawing - 2nd Draft - Final

A little backstory of my design.

As you would have notice, the mouth of my character is on the stomach and the butt is right behind it. There is actually a reason behind it.

I suffered from Gastric issues since young and often, the pain is unbearable. I was real skinny back then standing at 1.78m tall but only 40+ kg. This issue gradually improve but I still can’t enjoy any street food without having major digestive issue the next day.

So, If I ever becomes a Kaiju, I would like to eat from my stomach, taking up the necessary nutrients and shit it out immediately. Yup, this fast and furious but hey, at the very least, I won’t have any gastric issues anymore.

Here is a little sneak preview of the front view of the 2nd draft. I have darken the picture on purpose.. I will show the full preview of the 2nd draft soon. Likewise, I will also explain the differences between my sketches and the 1st and 2nd draft of 3d drawings. Stay tune!! =)

A Little Backstory & Work In Progress - Sketches.

2013 December - One particular Sofubi caught my attention. Little did I know that it will change my hobby entirely. I started off collecting Hot Toys, Lego and ThreeA but due to that sofubi and the knowing of more Designers Sofubi, I slowly gave up on Lego, Hot Toys (partially) and last but not least, ThreeA gave up on me.

That Sofubi? “Vincent Vs Liquid - Blackout” by Instinctoy.

Unfortunately, I didn’t win that particular Vincent but that didn’t stop me from trying to know more about the designer toy culture. I finally bought my first designer toy, Muckey and later on, Maguma, Realhead, Uamou huck gee james groman etc!! Most of them goes by online lottery sales. Winning the more popular ones like TkomArt are simply impossible at that point of time. It was only after 2 years of participation before I finally win ONE and that was the 9th colorway already. I can still remember the feeling of receiving the winning lottery email, pure happiness like winning the basketball championship and trust me, the feeling is very different from walking into the store to pre-order a piece of hot toys. It’s just different.

2015 - I watched clips from the movie “JellyFish” Eyes by Takashi Murakami in Youtube. I went to find out more about the movie and the whole story line was intriguing and interesting to me. I googled more of the characters and decided to come up with a story of my own, my own characters and hopefully in future, I get to see them come to life.

A world with only Kaiju. Instead of apes evolving, Kaiju gaining intelligence and grow instead. What IF, a comet hit the world of kaiju, no huge damage was done but it did left them a little souvenir, a little alien. Will the kaiju welcome him as their own or will they try to get rid of him like a threat?

With this story in mind, I went on to do random sketches everywhere but unfortunately, my wish didn’t came true. I simply don’t know who to approach and also, my Budget is a bitch.

Fast forward to November 2019. I happened to meet 2 very nice collector/ toy creators during a toy con. We spoke and they agree to help me after listening to my kaiju story. I bought a brand new sketch book and went on to draw for weeks. My character came into 3D form less than a month. I am scared at the pace that we are moving on but it is exciting at the same time too.

Here are just some sketches that I did.

1st sketch of the body. Mouth on the tummy. butt at the back. Eat Fast Digest Fast Poop Fast.

1st sketch of the back view. The 2 holes on the upper body was meant for the wing joints. vein filled clenching butt.

My initial design for the arm.

This symbol is important to the upcoming character. Likewise, it is also very important for the whole story that i have created.
