Chewthulhu - Mutagen OOZE

In a Parallel Universe; On a rather disturbed and polluted Earth.

As far as you can see, on the land and out to sea, Something bad is looming but no one can notice it.

Mad scientist attempting to gets Nobel prize by solving food shortage issues by enlarging animals, created "Mutagen X". He releases the Mutagen X into the sea via the wastage pipeline.

As the Mutagen X oozes into the sea, marine life nearby starts getting bigger and bigger but all ended up exploding into tiny bits. It was a failed experiment. It didn't stop, the mutagen continues to spread along the wave going into the ocean sparing not one marine life. Sea creatures are escaping away from the mutagen X.

A portal opens up at this point of time, It was 'Chewthulhu'. He had an appointment with his friend here, Charybdis. He notices what happens and decided to suck up Mutagen X with his big tummy mouth, purifying it and releasing the clean water via his butt.

Yup, he shits out clean water. It was only upon completing that he realizes that he turned green! invisibility clear body with green highlights. A pretty useless power I must say.

Meanwhile, Charybdis appeared in the lab of the mad scientist. Charybdis encourages him not to give up solving food shortage issues but, he cannot forgive him for harming the marine life, his home and proceeds to tear him in half.

This is the story behind 'Chewthulhu - Mutagen Ooze'.

Meanwhile, we still don’t know how Charybdis looks like, other than Eric

Updates for Chewthulhu - Gold Ingot.

SALUT Mina-San!!!

I would like to give a small update on ‘Chewthulhu - Gold Ingot’.

Originally, ‘Chewthulhu Gold Ingot’ was a limited edition of 10 pieces.

However, I didn’t manage to get a response from one of the winners thus, I decided to change the edition number to 9 pieces instead. Keeping the last piece as ‘AP’.

I chose not to reselect another winner as this will be fairer to those who replied to me within the given time frame and also this way, ‘Chewthulhu-Gold Ingot ’ will be more limited and of more value to whoever owns it.

If you look carefully, ‘Chewthulhu - Gold Ingot’ is painted with 2 different types of gold. A thicker type of rose gold paint to prime the base and then a brighter type of gold to layer it. Every piece is layered differently thus, this can be considered as a semi one-off.

Here, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported me by joining the mail-order of the blank colorway and also the gold-Ingot colorway. I sincerely apologize to those who missed out so far, please do not worry too, there will be more to come including a limited edition clear colorway and also the very first colorway of Chewthulhu which is coming next month. Please do stay tuned to it.

I learned a lot during these 2 months. From the importance of pacing my sales to packaging and then to finding a suitable cost of shipping via Mike from Ozzo Collection. Ben from Nebbyarts shared with me his personal experiences and Isaac from Whalerabbit is always there to help me out whenever I got issues with my toy. I also managed to gather a few important pieces of feedback from the popular artists, one of whom is Mr. Hiroto Ohkubo of INSTINCTOY.

I will continue to work harder, put in my very best, and also show you guys my second character soon.

Result For Chewthulhu- Gold Ingot.

Hi Everyone,

I am terribly sorry for the lack of updates recently. To be honest I am overwhelmed by all the assembly and packing up for the sales that were held 2 weeks ago.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the mail-order/lottery for Chewthulhu Gold Ingot. As the number of people who participated exceeded the number of pieces that I am preparing. The mail-order has become a lottery instead.

The lottery result is finally out today and the winner's email notification has been sent out.

Please do check your spam folder just in case.

Just another note to everyone, the express shipping from Singapore to overseas via my local post office is extremely costly. An EMS package for up to 2kg costs around $78SGD or $60USD and this is close to half of Chewthulhu’s price already. I am currently speaking to local couriers that do express shipping but at a much lower shipping cost. They come with tracking number so do not worry about it. I was told that a few other local artists are using their services too.

This is the mail-order information for Chewthulhu - Chinese Ingot 元寶.

The Chinese Ingot or 元寶 is a form of currency used in the olden days. There are usually in the form of a boat with a bump in the middle. Just like Chewthulhu’s tummy. The currency used back then was the silver stones rocks or the Gold Ingot and thus, I chose the color gold as the official color. It also symbolized wealth and I sincerely hope that adding one Chewthulhu - Chinese Ingot 元寶 at your place can bring you more wealth and luck too.

The sales method this time around is still the same. By filling up the google form below. However, the number of pieces I have prepared is limited. Please do understand that if the amount of people taking part in the mail order exceeds the number of pieces I have prepared, the mail-order will become a lottery sales instead. Only winners will be notified.

LOTTERY ON MONDAY

Hi Everyone,

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who successfully purchased one or both of the blank Chewthulhu. Likewise, I would also like to apologize to those who didn’t manage to get one. I have very limited stocks this time around, perhaps next time I can organize another darker shade colorway pre-order if you are interested.

Progress updates: I am currently piecing the Chewthulhu together and will ship them out mid of next week.

I am also working on the Ingot Colorway too. As the Ingot is the rock-like currency that was used in the olden days, I am trying to mimic the rock-like texture/feel on Chewthulhu himself, so this time around he wouldn’t feel smooth like sofubi in general.

Chewthulhu stands at 8inches tall.

• 2 little arms at each side to aid Chewthulhu during mealtime, or mealtime during a fight. Tearing the limb of other ‘Kaijus’ and eat while fighting proves easy with excess arms.

• tentacles legs to help swim better.

• mappings details to camouflage

• huge butt to create huge faeces

• tiny wings at the back to help him fly.

• Do note, he doesn’t grow. HE EVOLVES.

The year 2020 has been difficult for most of us. Some got sick. Some lose their jobs. Everyone got affected in their own ways but nonetheless, health is always the priority. Let’s keep ourselves safe, wear our masks, maintain the social distancing rules. Hope the pandemic dies down soon and we can welcome back our normal lives once again, best of all, welcome back the Toy Conventions!

Secondly, I have good news to share. ‘Chewthulhu’s’ production is officially done. Next will be the quality assurance check and then shipping back to me. After which I can finally share the official product with you. I really do hope you guys will like my design.

Sample Pull 'Flesh/skin Colorway'

Hi Everyone, I am back with my weekly updates. Pardon me for being a little late today. I had a little technical issue earlier on.

Today, I would like to share with you guys a little backstory on the production phase and also, the very first sample pull of ‘Chewthulhu’. I chose the ‘flesh/skin’ colorway so that we can see the details clearly.

Backstory - When Chewthulhu’s production mold was done up, I was told that there are 2 different types of ways to produce Chewthulhu, the traditional vinyl poured and pull method or the roto casting method. I chose the traditional way ultimately as I really wanted Chewthulhu to be a more traditional feel sofubi/soft vinyl toy. Partly also because I would like to do marbled colorway in the near future.

I chose Japan Grade Vinyl as the material for the pour and pull method. Chewthulhu has a total of 11 parts and he might look small, but he is actually 8 inches tall (about 20cm). Just nice to hold it around and bring it out for a photoshoot.

(Fun fact: If you know Mr. Takahiro Komuro /Tkomfactory/ TkomArt. He is about Tkom’s Gamaotoko size. I actually love Gamaotoko a lot and when I was first asked about the production size, I decided that it has to be the same size as Gamaotoko just so that they will be compatible for a photoshoot.)

I just can’t wait to have the chance to participate in the next toy convention just so that I can let you guys have a nice look and feel of Chewthulhu.

AMABIE.

A long long time ago, an auspicious yokai with long hair, fish-like scales, a beak, and three legs emerged from the sea.

Spotted something glowing emerging from the sea, a man actually walks over to check and see what is going on.

Amabie told the man his prediction that there shall be 6 years of good harvest but there will also be epidemics. He instructed him that in order to fight the epidemic, people should draw an image of ‘Amabie’ and share it with as many people as possible and they shall be cured. After which, the auspicious yokai disappear back into the sea.

This is my version of ‘Amabie’.

Hopefully, the Covid-19 situation will get better soon and we can resume traveling for toy conventions again. Meanwhile, do stay safe and healthy.
